Have you heard that the U.S. is full of possible, and as yet undeveloped, sources for renewable energy? A couple of different types of renewable energy – especially solar power. Some examples are wind power and ocean-wave energy. All these renewable sources have lots of un-tapped potential.

The western world has for over a hundred years relied mostly on such fossil energy sources as oil and coal. Well, that was then, and this is now. Coal and oil have been used because they were cheap and abundant. Plus these types of fossil energy were so convenient.

It is now evident that the Earth’s stored fossil energy reserves are running low. It gets increasingly difficult to extract them. There is also the concern about global warming.

As for myself, I am convinced that this is a real and serious problem. It is not that hard to realize that massive amounts of carbon dioxide are released when we burn coal and oil. This originates from carbon which has been hidden in the depths of the Earth for many millions of years. Now we suddenly release it into the atmosphere, in huge amounts.

During the 1900s, there has been an enormous increase of the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. This is a problem – and it has to do with CO2 being a “greenhouse gas”. This gas tends to trap heat radiation near the Earth’s surface. In other words: when we get more CO2 in the atmosphere – then the Earth heats up more.

The effects will vary depending on location. In some parts of the world, it can lead to disastrous consequences – drought, desertification, famine. Also, the polar caps are already melting at an alarming rate. If this trend continues, the ocean levels could rise several feet. Then, coastal cities like New York would be partly submerged. And if you live in a place like the Netherlands, you’d likely find your area submerged also.

What can we do about these problems? The measure against this is to let go of the reliance on fossil-based fuels like oil. The time has come for solar panels and other kinds of renewable energy – time to develop their potential. Now, do you have the idea that solar panels are way too pricey? Not anymore. You can save dollars by setting up home solar panels yourself.

Home solar panels ought to interest you if you have some measure of self-reliance. Get them set up on your rooftop, and thumb your nose at these pesky bills from the utility company. The people who live in the U.S. have proven themselves to live up to even the toughest challenges. Therefore, my firm opinion is that even this challenge will be met successfully.
